When producing a song, or complete album there are various different approaches available, depending on the musical style, personnel, and budget.

I typically work as much as possible in my own studio, but often will do much of the tracking in an external studio, or on location as required. I am also able to record live concerts on location for overdubbing and mixing later, using a mobile setup.
