Mixing is the process of taking the individual parts of a recorded song and adjusting, blending, editing, processing all the various elements as required. The source tracks levels, dynamics, frequency content and stereo positioning are modified, as well as ambient and modulation effects added if necessary. Timing and tuning problems are fixed, and once all blended together, a clear, cohesive, "radio friendly" finished track is produced.

I generally mix using Pro Tools 8, with high quality third party plugins, however, the approach I take will vary on the project. I will use additional high end outboard gear if a particular sound is required, or even use a different studio. For example, I recently produced some songs for a new musical at Strongroom Studio 1, Shoreditch. The whole process was intentionally completely analog... 2 inch tape, Neve desk, boutique outboard, plate reverbs, etc.
